Proofreading services include:
- Checking for typos
- Eliminating double words (the the, and and, etc.)
- Checking grammar
- Correcting any missing or incorrect punctuation
- Checking for spelling errors
- Correcting any incorrectly used words (homophones)
- Watching for formatting errors (double spaces, etc.)
Copyediting services include:
- Checking grammar
- Watching for missing or incorrect punctuation
- Correcting any spelling errors
- Checking facts to ensure accuracy
- Reviewing the table of contents, footnotes, bibliography, etc. (if applicable)
- Maintaining consistency with actions
- Finding and noting echo words (when the same word is used repeatedly)
- Keeping track of the timeline
- Making sure chapters and pages are correctly numbered
- Offering suggestions for restructuring awkwardly worded sentences that slipped past the editing stage
What I will not do:
Under no circumstance will I ever claim your work as my own or share it with any third party. You have worked hard, and I will not diminish that in any way.
I will not change your voice, your story, or your style. Every writer has their own unique way of writing, and I will do everything I can to maintain your authenticity.
Rates
Proofreading: $0.011/word
Copyediting: $0.017/word
Proofing and copyediting combination: $0.020/word
Turnaround time
Turnaround time will depend on the type and size of document you need proofread. I am happy to work with your deadline. I do not offer rush services as that will diminish the quality of service I am able to provide, and your work deserves the best I can offer.
Formats that I can work with
I can work in Google Docs. I enjoy this format because of the real-time results it offers. If either of us has a question, we can communicate directly in the comments of the document.
I can work with pen and paper. You provide the document to me, and I can make corrections and return it to you.
If you need me to work with another format just ask, and I will see what I can do!
Style guide
I have studied the Chicago Manual of Style and am familiar with it. If you need me to work with another style, I will be happy to see if that is possible.
I am perfectly willing to follow your own style guide. I even have a handy form I can send you to fill out just for that purpose!
Discounts and special offers
I offer a sample edit for all new clients. If you would be interested in working with me, I would be happy to proofread a section of your work at no charge. (Section size depends on the type of piece.)
If you send a fellow author my way, I would love to thank you by providing a discount or credit on your next project.
If you are a prolific author and would require my services on a regular basis (blog author, novelist, etc.), I would be happy to discuss monthly rates/plans to fit your needs.
